I normally never share my work from pregnancy shoots like this one from the Scottish highlands. At least not on my English blog. Mainly because I never thought anyone would ever consider flying me anywhere to shoot their baby bump. But what the hell? I’m gonna throw myself out there, and also, this shoot I did with the lovely Colleen in the Scottish Highlands on a chilly, windy and soaking wet November day is to good to not mention. This could even be my favourite series of pictures of all time.
So here’s the deal. I’ve been secretly shooting baby bumps. It started out as a guilty sort of secret. A naughty bit on the side from my story telling destination wedding photography business. Because I felt like it. And also because pregnant women are such beautiful magical creatures. Well, when I expected Joline I was more of a sweaty, constantly swearing version of a moomin troll which is a sort of magical creature I suppose. A waddling swearing magical moomin troll. With fanny hick-ups and hot flushes. I still was a force of nature though. All expecting women are.
So I decided I wanted to try something different, fun and new and this will mark the beginning of this new body of my work. Portraits of pregnant women. Or maternity photography. What is the common term in English?
My approach is completely different from the way I shoot weddings which is quite matter of factly. This I wanna keep ethereal and suggestive. Fairytale like almost. At least for now. If I manage to balance the immense power and vulnerability these women posses in my images I have succeded. (decpite the moomin trolling)
To mark this new beginning I will be offering money off session. And I will be in Scotland the second weekend of April. If you want me to come and meet you somewhere similar to the Glencoe area where this images are shot please let me know. I can’t wait to hear from you.
